Working in meat processing: my new start in the Netherlands

  • Blog

Moving to a new country isn't nothing. Especially when you have to rebuild everything: work, routine and a place where you feel at home. For me, that process began in the Netherlands, with a job in meat processing through Meta Carrière. A practical start, with clear guidance and above all plenty of room to get used to and grow.

From uncertainty to rhythm

The first weeks in the Netherlands were exciting. New surroundings, a different language and many questions. How does everything work here? What are my options? And especially: where do I start?

Through Meta Carrière, I got in touch with a recruiter who really took the time to listen to my story. Not only about what I could do, but also about who I was and what I was looking for in my new life here.

"I had no idea what to expect, but I felt like I was taken seriously right away." - Employee Meta Carrière

It quickly became clear that meat processing would be a good fit for me. The work is physical, structured and requires precision, exactly what I like. Within a short time I was able to start working at a company where I felt welcome from day one.

Learning, getting used to and growing

The start, of course, took some getting used to. New colleagues, safety rules, machines and work pace. But I was not alone. Meta Carrière provided clear explanations, guidance and check-ins to see how things were going.

"They didn't just ask how the work was going, but also how I was feeling."

Step by step, I gained more confidence in my work. I learned new skills, improved my Dutch and noticed that I was becoming more and more independent. What started as a new job slowly became a permanent place.

How the work feels

Meat processing is one of the most stable industries in the Netherlands. It is work that is needed every day, so workers don't have to worry as much about changing hours or suddenly being out of work.

Working in meat processing means working with colleagues to process and prepare meat products. It can be cool in the plant, and sometimes you have to work at a good pace, but you never do this alone. New employees are introduced quietly and colleagues help each other when needed.

Many people like that the work is clear and predictable. You know exactly what tasks you have and what the day looks like. This makes it easier to adjust to life in the Netherlands. You quickly develop a fixed work rhythm, which gives a lot of peace and clarity.

More than just work

For me, working in the Netherlands meant more than just income. It gave me structure, stability and a sense of direction. I built a diverse network, got to know the culture better and felt more and more at home.

Meta Carrière helped not only with finding work, but also with practical issues and questions that come with working in a new country, from contracts to planning and communication.

"I feel like I can really build a future here."

A new start with confidence

Today I still work in meat processing and look back with pride on the steps I have taken. What once began as a leap into the unknown has grown into a stable foundation for my life in the Netherlands.

And that is perhaps the most important thing: knowing that you are not alone and that there are people who think with you, move with you and give you opportunities.

Meta Carrière remains an important link, as a partner who not only looks at work, but at the person behind it.
